Family: His father, Jack, used to drink and abuse his mother. His mother, Joan, is a devoted Christian who doesn't accept her son's identity. He has a sister and a nephew who despise him. He's the biological father to Lindsay and Melanie's son.

Personality: Justin is a teenager who's trying to find his true identity. He wants to be proud of being gay, whatever people think. Whenever he wants something, he does everything he can to get it. He loves art and draws as a hobby.

Family: His father never accepted the fact that he had a gay son. His mother is very understanding of the way he wants to live and supports his choices. His parents are divorced. He has a little sister, Molly.

Job: Mall Manager (Season 1)
Personality: Michael is a very nice person. He's always there to support his friends when they need him. He is scared of following his dreams, but will succeed in the end. He worships comic-books which have helped him a lot during his teenage years. 
Relationships: David Cameron, Ben Bruckner
Family: He's very close with his mother, Debbie. He doesn't know his father, who has died at war. He has an HIV-positive uncle, Vic. Later, he will adopt Hunter with Ben, his husband. He's the biological father to Lindsay and Melanie's daughter.

Age: 34 (Season 1)
Job: Accountant (Season 1)
Personality: Ted is a very shy man. He lives a calm and normal life, going to work in the morning and going out with his friends in the night. He's always longing for something he's not and has a low opinion about himself. 
Relationships: Blake Wyzecki, Emmett Honeycutt
Family: He has difficulty talking about his true identity with his mother.

Name: Emmett Honeycutt
Age: In his thirties (Season 1)
Job: Employee in a clothing store (Season 1)
Personality: Emmett is a larger-than-life character. Though he's very effeminate, he often gives hints on his difficult childhood in Mississipi.

Name: Ben Bruckner
Age: In his thirties (Season 1)
Job: University Professor (Season 1)
Personality: He's HIV-Positive. He's very spiritual, is into Buddhism and is vegetarian.  He also write books.

Family: Is married to Michael Novotny and has adopted Hunter with him.

Name: Lindsay Peterson
Age: In her thirties (Season 1)
Job: Art Teacher (Season 1)
Personality: Lindsay devotes her life to her family. She's very interested in art and used to paint. 
Relationships: Melanie Marcus
Family: Is married to Melanie Marcus. They have two children: Gus (whose biological father is Brian) and Jenny Rebecca (whose biological father is Michael). She doesn't really get along with her parents because they despise her way of living.

Personality: Has a very strong personality. She's Jewish.
Relationships: Lindsay Peterson, Leda
Family: Is married to Lindsay Peterson. They have two children: Gus (whose biological father is Brian) and Jenny Rebecca (whose biological father is Michael).

Name: Debbie Grassi-Novotny
Age: In her fifties (Season 1)
Job: Work at the Liberty Diner (Season 1)
Personality: Is usually described as a big mouth. She's proud of her gay son and will do anything to fight for gay rights. She doesn't bear injustice.
Relationships: Carl Horvath
Family: Is very protective of her son, Michael. She has a brother, Vic, whom she's always taken care of.
